FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS
The Four Noble Truths were the first teaching given by the freshly
enlightened Buddha. They were recorded in The Discourse that Sets
the Turning of the Wheel of Truth aka, Dhammacakkappavattana
Sutta.
They are what the Buddha realized about the nature and
predicament of life. He encouraged people not to take his word for it
but to go and test it out on a personal level.
One way to understand these Truths are as hypotheses, and the
practice and experience of Buddhism as a process of verifying those
hypotheses, or the truthiness of the Truths.
"The first noble truth of the Buddha is that when we feel
suffering, it doesn't mean that something is wrong. What
a relief. Finally, somebody told the truth. Suffering is
part of life, and we don't have to feel it's happening
because we personally made the wrong move."
