CLIENT REQUIREMENTS & KEY STAKEHOLDERS
The rise in temperature may induce both frictional unemployment and structural
unemployment. In the short term, some jobs may be affected by high-temperature
weather, leading to factors such as employee turnover and seasonal labor
shortages. People may also be affected by high-temperature weather, with
increased search costs for jobs, which increases the probability of unemployment. In
the long run, global warming may lead to a decrease in labor productivity in some
industries, such as agriculture and mining, as well as an increase in the cost of labor
engaged in these professions, resulting in a long-term downturn in industry
employment rates” (Liu & Lin, 2023).
SPORTS:
Currently, the sports activities that UmRio provides are all outside, and extreme
weather hampers their ability to continue these activities, whether it is extreme heat
or rain. UmRio would like to consider how this could impact the overall delivery of
their programs since sports are the initial ‘hook’ for kids to get involved with UmRio.
The German Journal of Exercise and Sport Research included an article that states,
“Climate change is associated with the following increases of health-related risks for
athletes in particular: Direct consequences caused by extreme temperature and
other extreme weather events (e.g. increasing risks due to heatwaves,
thunderstorms, floods, lightning, ultraviolet radiation) and indirect consequences as
a result of climate-induced changes to our ecosystem (e.g. due to increased air
pollution by ozone, higher exposures to allergens, increasing risks of infection by
viruses and bacteria and the associated vectors and reservoir organisms)”
(Schneider & Mücke, 2024).
