NORTHERN LIGHTS
Visitors flock to Lofoten between fall and spring for the chance to witness
the northern lights. Due to Lofoten's excellent visibility, catching a glimpse of
the aurora borealis doesn't always require a lofty vantage point. However,
weather conditions may sometimes limit visibility to the north, with better
chances toward the south of the islands. Therefore, if you're on the lookout
for the northern lights and the forecast looks promising, it's worth driving
around a bit if the conditions change. Several apps, including "Aurora," can
help you identify good opportunities to see the lights. Additionally, the
weather forecast site, yr.no, has a simple feature that shows the KP-index (a
probability indicator for northern lights) and cloud cover forecast.
The northern lights season in Lofoten runs from September to mid-April.
