NOT SPEAKING UP
FOR YOUR NEEDS
One way you might betray yourself is if you don't speak up for your needs on a consistent
basis. Meaning, you tend to keep silent, brush your needs aside for others, or maybe you're
not in touch with your needs at all. This tendency can originate from many places,
including your culture, gender, upbringing and more. Depending on your background, you
might be more or less inclined to keep your needs to yourself.
How exactly is this self-betrayal? Ultimately, YOU are the only one responsible for meeting
your needs. When you ignore them, you're not serving your own best interests or
supporting yourself. So, you're really leaving yourself hanging, when you're the only one
who can truly be there for yourself.
While there are times that you might put your needs aside for others, doing so habitually
can leave you feeling resentful, frustrated and burnt out.
