PUTTING OTHER'S NEEDS
BEFORE YOUR OWN
Another version of self-betrayal is when you habitually put other people's
needs before your own.
How is this self-betrayal? Overly focusing on other people's needs can be a
convenient or safe way to avoid yourself. When you only think of others,
you don't have as much time to think about caring for yourself.
On top of that, focusing on other people's needs feeds codependency.
Maybe if you help other people feel better or meet their needs, then
perhaps you'll feel better too.
Self-Check-In
1.Do you often find yourself putting other people's needs before your own? If
so, give an example from a recent time you did this.
2. Do you generally find it difficult to focus on your own needs? If so, what
about it is the most challenging for you?
