kapalabhati
Kapala means skull, and bhati means light: implying perception and/or
knowledge.
Benefits:
Expands lung capacity, energizes blood flow and circulation, and
strengthens the immune system.
How to practice:
Sit tall with your head gently inclined toward your chest. Focus on
the third eye and rest your hands comfortably on your thighs.
Take a regular inhale and exhale to begin.
Next, inhaling through the nose, fill up halfway and begin breathing
out with forceful exhales while engaging the belly back toward the
spine with each pump of the out breath.
Let the inhale happen naturally in the space between each out
breath.
Inhales and exhales are through the nose.
Breath is powered from the navel and the solar plexus through
rapid stomach pumps: On the exhale, the air is expelled through
the nose by pressing the navel back toward the spine. On the
inhale, the belly relaxes, and the diaphragm flattens down.
Contraindications:
pregnancy, anxiety, hypertension, vertigo, epilepsy,
recent abdominal surgery
